At Meta, we have a goal to reach net zero emissions across our value chain in 2030 which requires us to address emission sources throughout our value chain, particularly within hard-to-abate sectors and even where we are unable to attribute the reductions to a particular value chain partner. As a result, we actively pursue value chain interventions that have potential to decarbonize our value chain at the pace and scale required to achieve our emissions reduction targets. Emissions reductions projects such as these also spur the development of early-stage decarbonization technologies, build markets, and transform the sectors in which we and our value chain partners operate.
In August 2023, Meta released a public Request for Information (RFI) to directly connect with entities outside of our direct supplier network that are positioned to originate, host, and/or support a pilot/demonstration-scale value chain intervention program or project. To date, Meta has contracted or is in active negotiations for value chain interventions that are expected to deliver hundreds of thousands of metric tonnes of CO2e reductions across the building energy efficiency, maritime shipping, trucking, steel, and concrete sectors – several projects of which originated through the RFI issued in late 2023. We believe the projects we support are important contributions towards catalyzing the deployment of long-term, scalable solutions towards the decarbonization of hard-to-abate sectors and the achievement of Meta’s goal to reach net zero emissions across our value chain in 2030.
Building upon the success of our initial RFI, we are now initiating a public Request for Proposals (RFP) in order to pursue scalable solutions for procuring CO2e reductions in sectors with commercially viable solutions and to establish relationships with new project developers, solutions providers and project hosts that are active in more nascent sectors. With this RFP, we intend to be more prescriptive with our project requirements and expected deliverables and stricter with our requirements for how proposals will approach the measurement and verification of emissions reductions.
Hard-to-abate sectors and activities that are applicable to this RFP include the following:
- Trucking
- Maritime shipping
- Aviation shipping
- Production or offtake of low-carbon cement or concrete
- Production or offtake of low-carbon copper
- Production or offtake of low-carbon steel
- Semiconductor manufacturing
- Heating and cooling of commercial and industrial facilities
- Production and offtake of green hydrogen
Request for Proposals
In order to receive the RFP, we require organizations to have an executed NDA in Meta’s mutual NDA template. If your organization would like to receive the RFP, please complete this intake request form and we will follow up with you directly.
