The pharmaceutical program, Energize, partners with X-ELIO to advance its climate goals:

  • X-ELIO has reached an agreement with Thermo Fisher Scientific, Haleon, Gilead Sciences and GSK to supply 245 GWh of renewable energy annually for 10 years through a multi-buyer PPA under the Energize program
  • X-ELIO will supply clean energy to this cohort through its Lorca Solar project, which is set to begin operations by early 2026

MADRID, Feb. 4, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — X-ELIO, a global leader in renewable energy, has signed a multi-buyer Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with an Energize program cohort. This initiative enables four companies to purchase 245 GWh of renewable energy annually for the next 10 years. The companies involved in this agreement are Thermo Fisher Scientific, Haleon, Gilead Sciences and GSK.

X-ELIO will supply clean energy through its Lorca Solar project, which is set to begin operations by early 2026.

The agreement has been reached through a virtual PPA, a flexible mechanism that allows companies to source clean energy in support of their decarbonization goals. The energy will come from 35% of X-ELIO’s Lorca Solar project, which has a total capacity of 369 MW and is expected to be operational by early 2026.

Mirko Molinari, Chief Commercial Officer at X-ELIO, highlighted: “The signing of this virtual PPA reaffirms our commitment to offering personalized net-zero solutions adapted to the needs of our partners. We are delighted to collaborate with the landmark program Energize and contribute to its ambitious goal to decarbonize the supply chain of the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors.”

Social and local commitment

X-ELIO integrates social and local responsibility into all its projects worldwide. For the Lorca Solar project, the company has developed a comprehensive Community Plan that includes various initiatives designed to benefit the local region. These include donations of books, musical instruments, and sustainable furniture to schools; the establishment of virtual classrooms; professional training programs; and sponsorship of key cultural and sporting events.
